When I fist wrote the posting on healing I had no idea that in less than 2 years later we’d be in lockdown under a worldwide pandemic. Now we’re living in a time when everything has changed. Our daily living is significantly different than it was 2 years ago. We listen to daily health care updates, our faces are masked, our hands scrubbed and sanitized. We refrain from hugs and handshakes and high fives. We maintain physical distance from one another and communicate through screens. No more potluck dinners and big family barbecues, church picnics and restaurant celebrations. Instead we stay home. Our community tables have gotten much smaller, but we are still a community.

Our nurses and doctors and vaccine researchers are working overtime to keep us as safe as possible. If we didn’t realize it before, we know now how important our medical professionals are to our everyday living. And we understand how fortunate we are to have such caring workers looking out for our well-being. May YHWH bless each and every one of them.

Although we are blessed with great medical professionals, Scripture tells us that the greatest healer of all is YHWH.

Jeremiah 33:5b-6

YHWH: I have hidden My face from this city because of all their wickedness [but] behold, I will bring to it health and healing [u’ma’rapeh], and I will heal [u’rapha’tim] them; and I will reveal to them an abundance of peace and truth.

God healed physically and mentally, but the most profound healing in the Bible was spiritually healing. The Messiah was sent to take the broken world and heal its spirit. In his prophecy Isaiah recognized the coming Messiah as a Healer:

Isaiah 53:5

But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed [ni-r’pa lanu].

The Bible is all about redemption, salvation and true healing. When humans chose poorly in the Garden of Eden it caused a rift between the Creator and the creation. Humans fell into chaos and were under the curse of death, but YHWH provided healing from the terrible predicament we put ourselves in. He sent a Healer, the Messiah, to bridge the gap, set us free from the curse of death, and return us to the Father.

Because of Yeshua’s sacrifice when all is said and done, and our bodies breathe our last breath, we will get to go home to YHWH and see our Creator face to face. That’s the best healing there is.
