Happy Sunday, everyone! Every week I put out something for you to read. I’m quite comfortable writing, but at the end of last year I went way out of my comfort zone and was interviewed for the podcast Burros of Berea. The episode (#283), titled, “When the Bible Comes Alive: Learning Scripture through Hebrew with Sarah Fisher” is now available for listening. I had a great conversation with Rick Welch, the host, about the joys of reading Scripture in light of the Hebrew language. You’ll also hear a bit of my testimony and how I got into learning Hebrew in the first place. I encourage you to take a listen by clicking the above link or, f you prefer, you can also listen to it on YouTube:
One of my take-aways from my conversation with Rick was how much I have been craving real, human, conversations about the Bible. A downfall of completing an education online is the lack of in-person discussion. There’s a real thrill in conversation and dialogue that you can’t get on your own. Many of us lead Bible studies, or give the Sunday sermon, but we don’t have the opportunity to have a good ol’ chin-wag about our love for the Bible with people equally passionate about it. I’ve joined many facebook groups to “stay in the loop” with what people are talking about regarding theology, and although I’ve occassionally jumped in on the debates it’s not nearly as fun as an in-person chat with others who share the same enthusiasm about the Bible. If you do have that in your life, consider it a great blessing!
Truth be told, the majority of us do not have people we can nerd-out with on a regular basis. The next best thing, I suggest, is a good podcast that makes you feel like you are part of the conversation! So I encourage you to check out the Burros of Berea and join in with a community that can keep you talking, and connecting, and learning about the Bible. It’s a reminder that the Bible is an important thing to study. It’s also a FUN thing to study, and studying the Bible through the medium of conversation (if even if it’s not your own) can only help keep the passion alive. At the end of the day that’s what we should all want.
