Revisiting FIRE! And a Personal Update.

Hello everyone. I’ve had to do a bit of a pivot this week. I realize I had promised to bring  you part two of the Wall, but I’m going to put that posting off for a month. For the next four Sundays I’ll be on vacation, wandering around the Mediterranean, and following in the footsteps of Paul. It’s an exciting adventure and I can’t wait to share it with you.

With this upcoming trip I had  a lot of last minute things to organize and time got away for me. To compensate I thought I’d tidy up the original FIRE posting. Last Sunday was Shavuot, the Jewish festival of the First Fruits. It was during that festival that the Spirit of God came down in a fiery way and filled the followers of Yeshua, physically bringing them into the united family of God. In Christian circles this is called Pentecost, which is celebrated around the world today.

Fire was a key feature in the story of Pentecost and its association with the Holy Spirit makes it an important word to review in the Hebrew Scriptures. The Tanakh has a lot to say about fire and you can read about it below:

Mount Etna Volcano. Image by Guillaume De Pratere from Pixabay

This past week the volcano of Mount Etna, on Sicily, erupted. It’s quite something to see the fires from under the earth reach the surface. It’s makes you realize how the earth is fragile, volatile, and yet surprisingly hardy. We will not be visiting Sicily, but we will be on the Island of Malta, not too far away from the Sicilian coast. I’m hoping natural disasters decide to take the rest of the summer off!

I still plan on posting every Sunday (as long as we have internet access) to give you a little update on where we are and what we’re doing. We’ll be tracing Paul’s missionary journeys in Athens, Corinth, Ephesus, Rhodes, Crete, Malta, and Rome (with a few other stops along the way). Next Sunday, God willing, we fly away!

Antio! Hoşça kal! Addio! Arrivederci!
